BCL leader sued for rape in Savar

Savar (RTNN): President of Savar College unit Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) was sued on Monday on charge of rape.

Police said victim’s mother Doly Begum filed a case against BCL leader Ahmed Rubel and ten others, including his two brothers, with Savar police station in the morning, reports UNB.

According to the case, Ahmed Rubel married off Tania Farin Mishu, 21, about nine months ago following a love affair and since then the couple was living in rented houses in different areas of Savar.

Recently Rubel with the help of his family has married with another girl, Nowrin.

On Thursday night, when Tania went to the house of Nowrin to inform her about their marriage Rubel’s family members, including his two brothers, beat her up mercilessly and handed over her to police after feeding her savlon forcibly.

Later on Friday afternoon, police along with the victim and a local Mahila Parishad leader foiled the marriage ceremony of Rubel on charge of attempt to take a second wife without the consent of the first wife.

Officer-in-charge Aminur Rahman of Savar Police Station said since the plaintiff could not show any paper in support of Tania’s marriage with Rubel a rape case was filed against Rubel for living with the girl alluring her with a promise of marriage.
