Muhit worried about situation

05 March,2015

RTNN News Desk: From the very outset we have been alerting the government about the losses emerging from the opposition’s blockade and calling for remedial measures. However, the government has chosen to ignore this. Now, though, the ministers and the partners are expressing their concern about the situation.

Speaking at a meeting with exporters on Monday, Finance Minister Abul Mal Abdul Muhit said, “Everyone has faced problems. This time it is absolutely unexpected. I am not saying that life has come to a standstill. The main issue is fear. That is serious. There has to be an end. This is a national problem.” Earlier he had said that the situation in the capital was normal but fragile outside Dhaka. Now even in Dhaka vehicles are being set on fire and damaged everyday.

Blockades and repeated hartals have not only broken the backbone of the economy, it has brought public life almost to a standstill. Education, industry, commerce, transport, nothing is running properly. There is no magic potion to solve the problem. And it will be a mistake to dismiss it as a matter of law and order. Jatiya Paty secretary general Ziauddin Bablu last Monday in parliament, stressed the need to solve the problem through talks.

We too believe that this problem has to be resolved through talks. The government may say that the opposition will have to stop this violence before any such initiative is taken. If the problems is not settled now, it may take on even more serous proportions. We hope the government feels the seriousness of the problem.
