JMB man Bulbul put on 5-day remand over SP's wife murder

14 June,2016

RTNN News Desk: A Chittagong court on Tuesday granted five-day remand to Bulbul Ahmed alias Fuad, Chittagong`s second-in-command of the banned militant outfit of Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), in a murder case.

The court of Metropolitan Magistrate Harunur Rashid granted the remand to Bulbul after the investigation officer Aheatamul Islam of Police Bureau Investigation, prayed for a seven-day remand in a murder case filed with the city`s Bakalia thana in May in 2015.

Bulbul was arrested when detectives of Chittagong Metropolitan Police led by its Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Babul Akter in a raid recovered eight hand grenades and huge quantity of bomb-making materials from a JMB den at Khoaznagar area in the city`s Karnaphuli Thana and arrested five JMB men on October 5 in 2015.

The JMB man was taken to remand to quiz over the murder of police superintendent Babul Akhter`s wife Mahmuda Khanam Mitu. Detective Branch of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) are working with new clue over the murder. Police suspect that the direction of the murder came from Babul who was in Chittagong Jail.

Detectives involved with the investigation said Bulbul send a note to militants from Chittagong Jail last month. In the note, he depicted about the torture of law enforcement on detained militants. He also directed the militants to take revenge of the killing of their leader Zabed by launching attacks on police.

Detectives have found a copy of the note and are investigating where the murder of the SP`s wife occurred according to the direction of the note. Bulbul along with four other militants including their leader Zabed, 24, were held with huge arms, grenade and explosives from the port city`s Khoaj Nagar area in last October. The militants tried to kill SP Babul Akter who led the drive.

Zabed was killed in a police drive in the following day. Detectives suspect that Mitu might have been killed as part of the revenge from the militants.

Earlier on June 5, assailants stabbed and shot dead Mitu, who left her OR Nizam Road residence in the port city of Chittagong on foot to drop her son at a school bus pick-up location around 6:45am.
