Gulshan attack: 20 killed in execution style

RTNN News Desk: The gunmen had killed 20 hostages at Holey Artisan Bakery on Friday night before being killed during the commando operation, said an Army spokesperson.

Brig General Nayeem Ashfaq Chowdhury, director of the Military Operations of the Bangladesh Army, informed this in a media briefing on Saturday afternoon.

"Twenty dead bodies were recovered from inside the restaurant. All the victims were killed on Friday night, most of whom were killed by sharp weapons," he said.

Six terrorists were also killed while one was held while 13 hostages were rescued alive during the drive in the city's diplomatic zone, Chowdhury said adding that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave directives to the Army to conduct the rescue operation that began at 7:40am.

Among the rescued persons, one Japanese national and two Sri Lankan citizens.

AK 42 rifle, revolver, pistol, walkie-talkie set and some lethal weapons were also recovered from the scene.

During the briefing, he also praised the members of Police, Army, RAB, BGB and Navy for their brave role and expressed deep shock at the deaths of two police officials.
