NSU suspends acting pro-VC Gias Uddin

18 July,2016

RTNN News Desk: The North South University (NSU) authority has suspended its acting Pro-VC Dr Gias Uddin Ahsan who was arrested on Saturday over Gulshan cafe attack.

Belal Ahmed, the university's deputy director of public relations, confirmed the Dhaka Tribune about Gias's suspension.

The suspension, executed on Monday, will remain effective until further notice, Belal said.

Dr Gias was arrested on Saturday for renting out a flat to the associates of terrorists who killed at least 20 people at the Holey Artisan Bakery in Gulshan on July 1.

On Sunday, a Dhaka court granted an 8-day remand for Gias.

According to police, associates of the Holey attackers moved into the flat at Block E, Road 6 of Bashundhara Residential Area on May 16, but Gias Uddin did not collect the required information from the tenants to submit it to police, as per the DMP directive.

Police found sand-filled cartons and used clothes in the flat. They suspect the grenades used by attackers at Holey Artisan Bakery were carried in those cartons.

They also suspect the five attackers started living in the flat in the beginning of Ramadan, and the plan for the attack was finalised there.
