No bar to hold entrance test in 3 colleges

10 June,2015

RTNN News Desk: The Supreme Court upheld a High Court order that had stayed the education ministry's policy on admitting students based on their SSC scores for three Dhaka colleges – Notre Dame, Holly Cross and Saint Joseph.

Justice Hasan Foez Siddique, chamber judge of the Appellate Division of the SC, passed “no order” on a petition filed by the education ministry, challenging the HC order.

Attorney-General Mahbub-e-Alam moved for the education ministry while Fida M Kamal and Barrister Tanim Hossain stood for the authorities of the three colleges.

While talking to journalists, Tanim said: “The chamber judge has upheld the HC stay by passing no order. The three colleges have no bar to hold entrance tests.”

Earlier on June 8, the HC stayed the education ministry's policy on admitting students based on their SSC scores for the three Dhaka colleges.

A High Court bench comprising of Justice Naima Haider and Justice Md Iqbal Kabir issued the stay for six months on Monday, responding to the writ petitions filed by the principals of these three colleges.

The principals filed writ petitions separately, challenging six points of the policy issued by the education ministry on June 1, the lawyer Fida S Kamal told the Dhaka Tribune.

The HC bench also issued a ruling asking why the education ministry's policy regarding the issue should not be called unauthorised.

The secretaries for education and secondary and higher secondary education board were asked to answer the ruling within four weeks
