SUST teachers assaulted by BCL men

30 August,2015

RTNN News Desk: Chhatra League activists have assaulted several teachers of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) who were staging protests demanding the removal of the university's vice-chancellor.

The university's academic council meeting was scheduled to begin at 8am Sunday. Vice-Chancellor Prof Aminul Haque Bhuiyan was supposed to attend the meeting.

Teachers under the banner of ‘Mohan Muktijuddher Chetonay Udbhuddo Sikkhak Forum’ were also set to stage sit-in programme in front of academic building in the morning.

As soon as the teachers went there, Chhatra League activists snatched their banners and locked in scuffle with them. At least 10 teachers including Professor Dr Yasmin Haque, former secretary of teachers association Faruk Uddin, Omar Faruk, Mostafa Kamal and Dipen Debnath were assaulted at that time.

SUST Proctor Kamrul Hasan Chowdhury said: "Some BCL activists engaged in scuffle with the protesting teachers. But none was injured in the incident."

He said police were trying to calm the situation.
