JSC, PEC tests to be held this year too

27 June,2016

RTNN News Desk: Students will have to sit the Primary Education Completion Examinations (PEC) and junior school certificate (JSC) like previous years as the government has decided against doing away with the tests for now.

Monday's Cabinet meeting decided to hold both tests this year.

Grade V students sit the PEC exams while students of class VIII take the JSC tests.

The government had decided to upgrade primary education to eighth grade and hold public examinations at the end of class eight.

On June 15, the High Court in a ruling asked why the PEC exams should not be abolished, after hearing a petition by lawyer Yunus Ali Akhand who sought court's directive to scrap the tests.

Since the PEC's introduction in 2009, education specialists and parents have been criticising it and demanding its cancellation.
